I want to preface this post with a side point of a project I’m working on; an extension of this model in a book I’m writing. I’ve studied typology theories like MBTI and Socionics for years, and here’s my take: MBTI is popular because it’s simple and easy to grasp, but that simplicity is also its limitation. While it can give a broad sense of personality, it lacks the dimensionality and precision needed for real-world application—especially when it comes to understanding relationships, communication styles, and long-term compatibility. In many ways, MBTI has become more like a personality horoscope—fun and relatable, but too generic to rely on deeply. Socionics, on the other hand, dives much deeper. It expands beyond MBTI’s surface-level traits by exploring cognitive functions in more detail, their intertype relationships, and how types interact dynamically over time. It factors in not just what someone prefers (like introversion vs. extraversion), but how they process information, make decisions, and adapt under pressure. Here’s the simplest analogy: MBTI is like basic arithmetic—adding and subtracting. Socionics is like physics—it explains the rules behind the numbers and predicts how systems interact. If you’ve ever felt MBTI was “close but not quite” when describing you or your relationships, Socionics might be the framework you’ve been looking for. It’s not just about typing—it’s about understanding compatibility, personal growth, and why people behave the way they do in complex systems. Have you explored Socionics yet? Or are you still finding value in MBTI? (edited)

Both MBTI and socionics are pseudoscientific frameworks which are not empirically supported and which directly contradict empirically validated modern psychological models.

I’ve heard of this can you share any book you recommend on socionics ? I love mbti and it’s helped me understand people’s needs better like knowing which type is forgetful usually the p types which type is blunt the T types which type is sensitive the F types which type is less talkative the i types or more talkative the e types which types are more organized and more cautious the j types so mbti is useful too it can help you be patient and more understanding of someone so I’m interested in anything that helps me understand people better 🤔🤔🤔 (edited)
