If you are already receiving mental health care the best way to explain to family and friends is to sit each one down and have a conversation, I have TBI and PTSD from the military and my dad thought I was lying for a decade

1st step is accepting that you are responsible for your mental health... Not family or friends and disengage on that subject with them where necessary 2nd step find outside support.Professional therapy, local support groups like CODA or ACA as applicable, etc. 🫂 (edited)

Even though you'd probably want your family or friends to be there, if they refuse to consider your mental health, then you shouldn't consider them for that. As others said, go to a therapist. If it is too expensive you could get help from psychology students that are about to graduate (they typically need a patient or two to successfully graduate). They are of a lot of help and you both win. If that option is not available, remember that you're your own most important "asset" you should take care of yourself regardless of what family and "friends" think.
