ADHD!

Who has it and is ok with it? Meds, or no? Co-occuring depression and/or anxiety? Time-blindness, procrastination? Exec dysfunction all over the freaking place? What kinds of things do you do to cope? (I'm not a therapist of any kind, just someone with all the features of ADHD and no formal diagnosis...yet. I haven't decided if I really want one, I guess.) Onward!

I have adhd and was proscribed prozac and have a councillor, for me the medication has changed my life for the better, I was suicidal and now i am doing really well, just remember to do grounding exercises.

It sounds more like bipolar than ADHD. You don't get suicidal just from ADHD. Prozac will get less effective with time and honestly to god if I was you id ask someone else for opinion..for each "specialist" there is one diagnosis ..glad its working for u..I dont take meds..seeing plenty of people every day fixes my ADHD lol..ive found out that doing Uber for like an hour or 2 ..driving with random people around city and talking keeps me haply🤣 ..and since it's random people for 10 or 15 min rides Noone gets bored of me talking a lot 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I got it and don't take any meds..why would I want to change it..I embrace it..im different than most and I like it..I can oay attention to 10 things at once..eventually things get done .I dont mind procrastination..gaming keeps my mind occupied..and to quiet it down before sleep I repeat in my head..DO NOT THINK ..breathing put and same repeat breathing in..slow breathing and im asleep in 2 min lol..

I was just diagnosed at 42. Better late than never, I hope. Vyvanse seems to work alright for now, but executive dysfunction and a constant barrage of thoughts are pretty normal for me. I use an app called Dalio.

A friend (who is also my Pilates teacher) just got diagnosed at 43. So you're not alone. She has managed to cope well all these years and runs a successful business, but decided she needed help managing her social anxiety, so that's what her doc is focusing on.

@Candice Social anxiety seems to be a big problem for a lot of us, from what I've heard. It's sadly very common for people my age to be diagnosed late in life, which is probably because when I was a kid, no one believed ADHD was a real thing. Great that she's been able to manage for such a long time.

@Jacoby I think that's exactly it. People say it's being "overdiagnosed" because it seems like there's been an explosion of diagnoses in recent years, not taking into account that a lot of these new diagnoses are of adults who were never able to get diagnosed as children and went through their entire lives believing they were failures and underachievers who simply "weren't trying hard enough".

@Candice I've heard that a million times. It's difficult because, when I was a kid, I was in gifted classes and as I got older, school was a mind-numbing prison. The older you get, the more time you spend sitting at a desk and school teaches according to a spiral curriculum, so it repeats and builds year after year. Nothing is new anymore like it was early in childhood. I took the SATs when I was 12 but barely graduated. It's sad, my mother is 73 and still doesn't think it's real.

To help ourselves manage our ADHD when it's absolutely necessary for us to do so, it's good and healthy for us to embrace it when we can. Sometimes, when the time or location allows it, we need to let go and let it do it's thing. We need to take a break from coping with it. Then, we can have a good laugh at the end of the day. Everybody needs to let loose sometimes. And who doesn't enjoy a good laugh? So, let's have a good laugh now. I heard the funniest knock knock joke years ago. You can respond in the comments... Key for me is..dont worry about it..sont worry what people think of you or day..fukem if they want to be bitches towards you..zero fuks given everything someone asks me whats up with me..I just say ADHD with hell knows what else lol...if they think u might be crazy they leave u alone lol...that plus a bit of psychotic laughter helps 😄

How do you manage burnout?

Scented candles

Anyone find certain aromas soothing? I love scented candles because the colours of the wax and the kind of scents you can get like Sakura Trees or Wild Cherry. It soothes any anxiety I have ☺️
