Emotional damage is real
I believe that teaching our future generation to hone and better understand their own emotions, is a key factor in healing societies mental health crisis. This isn’t just about people who are sick mentally, but also about sane people struggling with their own emotions and use coping mechanisms like drugs, sex, and as extreme as hurting other as an outlet, to hurting themselves. Bringing more harm by running from the issue, they simply aren’t equipped to facing. Emotional control and healing from painful scars is a skill learned not given. Developing this skill and having the will power to control your emotions is a must in life. It’s necessary to pass this down to our youth. I remember my mother always talking about being patient and calm when things didn’t go my way to not let my emotions blind me. I use to be angry all the time as a teen, I’d fail to understand why I needed to stop myself from feeling upset when something bothered me since it made me feel better expressing it. So whenever I was inconvenienced in my life I’d lash out. This killed me as an adult. She did her best but ultimately we need to do better. The worse kind of emotional damage you can do to yourself is numbing it, people who live without it become cynical, unsympathetic, and lose themselves in a cycle of selfishness that will only lead to self centered-self inflicted assured destruction via their own future being empty and unfulfilled or the inability to handle life and cutting it short for themselves. Others suffer and scar themselves to levels they cannot cope with and drown in depression so deep it’s deafening. Exploring your emotions can be a scary thing but start small what do you like and what don’t you like? And why? What makes you feel bad? and why? What makes you feel good? and why? Does it go against your morals/values? Why do you have those morals/values in life? Who are you? Answer that by defining your integrity and developing a proper well rounded mind that can understand and accept- that people are different, you need to agree to disagree and see things from their view without distastefulness towards it. Accept who you are as you were created as such. I wish I could say more but any longer and my message will be missed by those who need it the most.
