I'm on the fence if I really want to have kids I just know it's a lot of work and money but I know there can be a lot of joy also but I'm not sure if I want to go through all the struggles

Definitely a question you'll have to answer for yourself in the end 😊 I teach a course to high school students that's all about relationships and family, and I always make a point of telling them it is THEIR choice to be mothers or parents if they want and if they make the decision NOT to have kids, that is a completely legitimate choice. There is no wrong answer unless you ignore what your heart is telling you. Normally I'd talk about logic and reason, but even with hard times and sometimes sketchy finances, having a child is more of an emotional decision than a logical one. 💖💖

If your on the fence - don't. Maybe you'll regret not having a kid, but if you have one and regret having them they'll know. Kids can feel it. They don't deserve that. Having a kid is also accepting that you have no fcking clue what they'll be like or how the two of you will relate. You don't know if there will be health complications or personality clashes or what have you. & even if you feel 100%, you're not. No one can be - the switch from self to parent-self is jarring even in an ideal environment. It's more like...you're ready to not be ready. I love my kid. But i can't just pick up and move or travel or go to conventions or stay out at a friend's house talking all hours of the night or any of that anymore. And if I do, it's gotta be planned and costs $$$ for a sitter. 5 hours child-free for a dinner date or something runs me an extra $70 at least, depending on sitter rates. The stress of being the financial support for both of us is intense because I want to be sure she's cared for. There's the added mental load of health, schooling, feeding, raising, playing, etc. And there's not really "off" time. & if you'd be pregnant, even a textbook smooth pregnancy and birth can be trying. Exhausting. And the body is never the same. Granted, having a "village" nearby with family and a solid partner can make a difference and alleviate some of it, but it's still work and still hard in its own way. I'm doing it solo, it's just me and her. And that's a lot to shoulder. Saying this, I'd still have a second someday with the right person or consider adoption to grow my little family. There is certainly joy to be had but you can find joy other ways if everything else that comes with parenthood isn't for you.

Being a mother is a blessing. Id say, be a mother after you have accomplished all the goals you got in your life, do the things you always wanted to do while you’re still young. And when you feel like you accomplished everything you needed and wanted, then its tome to pass that torch.
