Where would you rate Watchmen? Feel free to express your thoughts and opinions in the comments. For me: still rewatching it but ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Based on Alan Moore best selling graphic novel, Zack Snyder takes a shot at adapting the book to film and I think for the most part he does it well. It’s visually stunning, there are memorable characters with the favorite being Jackie Earle Hayley as Rorschach, and film does take chances like the graphic novel and explore the superohero genre and in a much darker way similar to original source material. More violent, more disturbed, and tackles certain themes and ideas including superheroes who aren’t exactly super people in a sense of the ideology, methods, nor code including one character Dr. Manhattan who has the power of a god yet doesn’t seem to care much about humanity due to alternate timeline and destructive nature and lack of emotion due to how he gets his powers. There is quite a lot to unpack, but I also want to say my favorite part of the film is weird enough the opening credits giving a visual summary, tone, and history of the Watchmen done in slow motion with musical accompaniment by Bob Dylan’s The Times They Are a Changin which feels fitting for something like this film. Still this film may not be for everyone. If you haven’t l not read the graphic novel and you’ll be very surprised especially in its ending maybe even mad as I was when I first saw the film. This definitely isn’t your typical Marvel or DC Comic film and because of the films length, depending on the cut you viewed the story can be confusing as there are multiple subplots and flashbacks. Despite me enjoying it I do prefer the more well known comic book icons in Marvel and DC over Watchmen. Still I highly recommend this film, but be warned that there are moments and scenes that might be too disturbing for some including an attempted rape scene. The same can be said for the graphic novel if you haven’t read it, but are interested in trying to read it.

Between the theatrical cut and the ultimate cut, you can choose between a more casual and a more indepth cinematic experience of the original limited series. I feel the ultimate cut is for those that have read the original work with the inclusion of the Black Freighter animated sequences, but they both capture the feel of the original work quite well. Not without it's faults, some shots are more for the visual look than actual storytelling, and it can feel a bit bloated, but it's still a classic in the superhero genre. A cynical portrayal of superheroes in the cold war era, showing the cyclical nature of history. Not for everyone, but still a 4/5 for me.
