Went to watch it 2 nights ago and I have to say that Frank Grillo was excellently casted as the lead character. His acting is extremely natural and he has that look and build about him that carried him brilliantly throught till the end of the movie. 

I would say that the depiction of werewolves themselves were a little whacked but still close to about 2/3 of lore accurate werewolves. 

I can say this for certain as I've encountered them multiple times in real life. No, I do not talk about it. 

Werewolves move extremely fast and not lumbering, as depicted in the movie. That got me a little pissed off. 

Lou Diamond Pillips was a shocker to me. I had no idea he played lead researcher in the movie. He's almost unrecognisable until I confirmed it was him after reading the casts in the end credits. 

I really wish they make such horror movies like they did in the 80's and early 90's but all I see right now are current movies that are not even worth spending money on for entertainment value because there is none. So sad. 

Overall, i give this movie a solid 7/10.

For me: rewatching it again but thinkin ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2. I remember liking this film quite a bit as well as watching it on IMAX and 3D which is usually the best way to watch the film. On its own on DVD it’s fine. The visuals particularly the environment and moments where the train goes out of control are a wonder to see especially during the winter holiday/christmas season. I even like Tom Hanks who plays multiple roles, but really stands out as The Conducter and the homeless man. I even like the lesson about belief where it does approach it from different points, but it’s usually left to person to believe in something or not.

However, the films uses Robert Zemckis’s motion capture animation which is usually great for environments, but people and faces not so much having that uncanny valley towards them including one kid with Mandarkks voice from Dexters Lab. Also when they do reach the North Pole, it looks boring and lifeless. One of my favorite reviewers even compares it to a world from the Bioshock games (first two anyway). 

I think if you can get through the animation on the characters faces fine then I think its worth checking out if interested. Won’t lie watching this then and even sometimes every year makes me wish I was on a Polar Express style train for Christmas.
