What is the metaphors for finding a feather? Do the colors patterns matter? I’ve only found a couple recently and it’s been since I was a kid to have bothered noticing. Is it illegal to collect them? Comments appreciated

I don't think it's illegal, but you live in California. Some of your laws are way different than everywhere else. That being said, thank you for posting this. The search on this was very fascinating and a blessing. Feathers do have a lot of significance and symbolism. It depends on what culture, tradition, or faith you aspire/subscribe to. Putting Google search feathers significance and you will find a ton of information. What I found is really good. Things like truth, light, and heaven. Hope, knowledge, and promise. I would say this is a really good feather. There is some color symbolism too. Do a deep dive. You won't regret it. 😊 (edited)
