Paloeart #77 Josephoartigasia
Josephoartigasia was the largets rodent that ever lived, at approximately five feet tall, this massive capybara ancestor weighed as much as 1,000 lbs. Shortly after the KT extinction that killed the dinosaurs, many contemporary animals grew into niches that would otherwise be unavailable, titanic crocs, 30 ft snakes, and mule-sized rodents were common, as their evolutionary lines stretched their legs into new territories. Raul Martin depicts these great rodents as two barreling forces of nature, with a larger, mature bull pursuing a younger male (Notice the wounds on the young male) .Both subjects take up most of the image, giving the illusion of size without outside references. The most interesting thing about Josephoartisigia isn't even its size, but its incredible bite force, which rivals some of the strongest bites in the animal kingdom, including crocodiles. (edited)

Joschua Knuppe is perhaps one of the foremost artists in the modern Paleoart Movement. Living animals are prone to strange, even adorable acts of... (edited) read more
