Define free will? Many definitions wind up being incoherent. Should one assume that causality is a thing, there was an initial cause, so all was predetermined from that. Even should one cling to esoteric interpretations of physics, it is not difficult to reach a conclusion that the universe has multiple paths that it can propagate down, but none of that is under human volition. As to the specifics of your question, the answer may be "neither". I was not free, nor were there nefarious forces at work. It was simply the operation of my body down the only available pathway through time.
