Reflections on Freedom – Diary Fragment, 2026

Everyone, whether they want to or not, of their own will or another's, accepts a role which they then allow to shape their reality. Everything thus submits to them, or even to their surroundings. Is it perhaps a comfort that people have managed, through the creation of roles, systems, and social structures, to outwit the inescapable freedom of being? That absolute, radical freedom, for which perhaps no instructions have existed since time immemorial. What is one to do with it? I mean, however, a freedom that transcends social freedom. An existential freedom. For it is downright terrifying, as it tempts one to do anything, anytime, without exception. It is so absolute that good and evil do not yet exist within it. Those are merely words that come only after the deed. Words by which man tries to justify his committed act. Perhaps as an attempt to bring order into the chaos of freedom. Freedom itself, however, is silent, indifferent, and bottomless. It is an empty space of all possibilities, as open to a saint as to a murderer. For anything you do, no one punishes you except society, and if no cosmic judge exists, then all responsibility falls upon man himself. What if that primeval first generation forgot, or perhaps out of pity and fear for their suffering, did not pass on to their descendants that behind this generous, bottomless freedom in what I do, there is nothing more? That it is perhaps given as both a punishment and a farewell gift? That when the body passes, the soul departs into eternal emptiness, and not, as is traditionally told, perhaps out of horror of the void, through religions, that before and after freedom stands God, karma, fate, or judgment. If there is no final judge, then there is no one to offer an apology to. But what if man becomes at once the judge, the accused, and the executor of the sentence? And that is perhaps much harder than the notion of divine judgment... (Kind reader, may you forgive my possible errors, shortcomings, and the excessive audacity of some thoughts.)
