Depends, is everyone involved a willing participant. Because what happens between two consenting adults is none of my business. But being forced to be part of whatever program this would be is something different and wrong.

I believe it can and should be. I don't think we should splice together random DNA to try and create super soldiers or anything. But being able to eliminate common allergies that can be anything from a nuisance to deadly (like pollen, peanut, gluten, lactose, etc) would be wonderful for the world. I think what would be the most immoral part would either be the experimentation or the monetization of implementing it. I mean, we charge people to be able to see properly, when they were simply born defective. How much would it cost to ensure your child will have perfect eyesight and no allergies? I love the concept of eugenics and how helpful it could be to the human race. However, many people panic at the mere mention of the word - instead of critically thinking about the implications of using it and not using it.

For humans? In my humble opinion, NO This kind of logic is why we have like 900 different dog breeds that have been bred for numerous different purposes that serve humans( I.e. German shepherds not existing before 1899). And that’s BARELY fine for creatures with no actual sense of self. But when we start viewing PEOPLE that way, when we give them NO choice, we dehumanize them. That’s when people justify genocide and human chattel. That’s when we lose our humanity. However If someone wants to participate or donate dna in a futile attempt to be rid of all diseases and medical maladies, then yeah, knock yourself out. Though I can imagine that creating and rigorously testing people created as a result of their playing god might entail some human rights violations. So maybe NOT even that.

Selective breeding in which context? I know you specify eugenics, but outside of the immediate connection people make to Nazi programs (hey- go check out the eugenics program running in the US, that the Nazi program was modeled after) which obviously poisons the well, eugenics itself encompasses a number of judiciary philosophies, means of enforcement, and other aspects that people are likely to be ignorant of, and it is not even limited to human procreation, even if it is the most common use of the word. To continue. I select who I breed with. Or do you mean crop and livestock cultivation via selective breeding? Not really a moral question, but the tendency towards monocultures is a global crisis waiting to happen. Do you mean a state enforced prohibition, or mandate, over who can breed? Very rarely moral, though I think a few specific arguments can be madeb where it might require state intervention. Should two people suffering from severe mental deformity be allowed to have a child? What if there is no way they can be adequate parents, meaning the child WILL have to become a ward of the state, and it will also have the same condition? Or maybe it will be worse in the child? Does the state deserve the burden, the child deserve the separation from parents, enduring state welfare and foster home system, and suffering from the same condition? Dunno. I think, if I had to make the call personally, I would say have the state prohibit reproduction... But what precedent does that set? What can go wrong, or how can it be twisted/abused, since we know it will... Is it more moral to let the child suffer the consequences because stopping it causes problems for more people? I have always been uneasy with any argument that boils down to "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few" UNLESS the few make that decision for themselves, as Spock did. WE will sacrifice for the many. Fine. THEY must sacrifice for the needs of the many.. nuh uh (edited)
