This Is Love

This is not coming from a religious view; I don't believe in reincarnation, hell or heavens. But, you see, as far as we know, consciousness arises from brain and what is brain made of? Neurons. So if neuron is completely a physical object, then it doesn't make sense for a collection of neurons to be something other than physical. I am not saying that neurons are conscious as we are, but it should contain some kind of element of subjective experience. In the same manner, the constituent molecules of a neuron should also have this property. By induction, all atoms and even subatomic particles in it should also have some capacity for subjective experience. And since the same kind of particles (electrons, for example) are physically indistinguishable from each other, they all should be able to have this qualitative experience.

Which make me wonder, what is it after death? Surely, there won't be any sense of self, because the brain creates it and I don't think anything other than brain can create this illusion of self. The same with memory, the brain stores it; without it, we won't have any memory, or perhaps I am wrong and there are other possible mechanisms for storing and retrieving experiences.

Whatever that is, it will not be same experience as when we were alive. However, it might be possible that feelings can still be experienced. 

Think of when we are asleep, maybe we experience pleasure or pain or whatever and we forget it when we wake up because the part of the brain that creates and stores memories don't work at that time. But that doesn't necessarily mean we didn't experience anything. 

But experience without memory, is it really experience at all? 
Assuming memory is not possible after death, will it be possible to experience anything at all?

**The devil**
Imagine this scenario: The devil offers you a sum of money but you have to go through some kind of torture for an hour. If the amount cannot justify the torture, we won't go through it, right?

Now, imagine the devil said: "Okey, I will erase your memory of the torture after it is done"

Will you go through it? Most will still say no because you know you will be tortured even if you don't remember it. 
Now what if the devil offered to erase your memory after 30 minutes? You only have to go through the torture for 30 minutes at a time, then it resets and you go through another 30 minutes. But according to you, only one round of torture happened and you don't remember any past ones or expect future ones. 
Still 30 mins seem not worth it.

The devil wants it so bad so he puts up another offer: the torture is set in 6 parts each of 10 minutes duration. Your memory is reset before and after each section. 

You don't still agree, he goes on and on, and at last he offered you that large sum of money for one second of torture.

Seems like a good deal, right? According to the devil you suffer for 1 hour, but according to you, you only suffer for a second! 
How much times it is repeated doesn't concern you because you have no recollection of past torture or expectation for future ones.

Having no memory will be like resetting your memory every instant, and doing it infinitely fast. Right?
So,experiencing torture without memory, is it torture at all?
By induction, can you experience anything at all without having atleast short term memory?

So assuming memory is not possible after death, then experience will also not be possible. 

**Learning outcome**
Experience is everywhere and not just in the brain. What the brain does is allow memory and the sense of self which helps for a stream of consciousness rather than experiences being shattered the instance they are created. 

Thinking of an analogy, the brain is like an umbrella under which there is wet ground. All the other places are dry not because the absence of rain, but the evaporation. The umbrella doesn't create the water, it prevents the evaporation of water.

I got into a bizarre conversation at work yesterday. The person has interesting thoughts on religion and politics--but they seem to have an extreme aversion to hearing the other side speak. I know similar people on every side of every argument or conversation I've ever overheard. There are reasons I keep my mouth shut and my opinions to myself--even, to some extent, on the internet. But I WILL share a meme or cartoon in lieu of that opinion.

Take that as you will.

Imagine yourself sitting in front of a piano, relaxed and calm but you're just not motivated to put your fingers on it.

But Just sitting while you stare at it; you remember the last time you put fingers on it. You tried to make sense of the sounds coming out of it. After a few days of practice; you've become distasteful of doing it, distasteful of trying figuring it out.

And finally you decide to grab your phone, and learn a peaceful rhythm from a tutor on the internet. And voila! 

You finally have something to feel good about. But behold and think about what crime you just committed?

Something died because of this; a potential creation, unique, authentic and especially something to call ‘’yours”. Don't just give up on yourself because the creation didn't turn out to as good as you expected it to be. Great creations happen when one is willing to experiment and keep doing it again and again; until it is actually that good. So good that it might exceed your expectations.
