Honestly...
TL;DR: I notice a lot of people ask for honesty. How do you think it best to vet the honesty of others? I have noticed a bit of a pattern in people's profiles: Honesty is often requested within. I see nothing wrong with that request, but my question is how does one actually evaluate that metric? Honesty is a one sided proposal, as the side receiving the interaction that is portrayed as honest is merely infered or intuited and can not really be confirmed in many cases unless it is imperical in some manner. What I am assuming is the request is a more emotional honesty than a factual honesty (though people do lie about height and age and such so there is that too). To that, I pose the question as to how people go about figuring out who is honest with them or not.

Hey. I appreciate honesty, but I didn't state it in my profile. The way I see it, it's a general quality everyone would say they want, but a dishonest person won't suddenly be reformed by you requesting honesty. So I don't see a lot of sense in adding this to a profile. As for verification, I don't actively try to test honesty, but often you can see the lack of it just by interacting. Like, for example, a person saying they will text you at a certain time and they don't. One time - understandable, maybe something came up. But if this or similar things happen often, you can conclude that the person has tendency to break their promises, which isn't good. (edited)

Like generally? I think if you’re seeing it in profile, it just generally means that you don’t give inaccurate information. I don’t think the average person wants you to spill your guts, but no one enjoys being lied to. People don’t want to discover that you lied about your age, location, or marital status.

This is a very good and yet difficult question. My first thought is to look for some ambiguity in a person's answers and whether they take account of ambiguity or vagueness too, and how they explain their ambiguity or vagueness on this or that topic. With this I imply of course that a general lack of ambiguity is itself untrustworthy, and should therefore serve as a ground to be doubtful about someone being honest. This may be quite subjective, but I find people that have only very straight and clear answers about nearly everything 'unrelatable' and therefore 'somewhat untrustworthy' since I cannot trust myself judging their character. I guess sometimes we have to be able to accept our own limits when we are not able to be objective enough in judging other people's character or actions. (edited)
