I stood in their path, my resolve like stone, Yet their shadows moved past, and I was alone. I spoke, I shouted, I reached for their fire, But my strength fell short, my voice expired. I wrestled with darkness, I bled in the fight, Yet the wrong slipped away into the night. Was it my fault that I couldn’t prevail? Does the weight of their deeds mark my own trail? I see the wreckage, the lives undone, And wonder if justice was lost with one. Though I dared to oppose, to shift the tide, Does my failure mean I stood on their side? If intent is pure but the outcome grim, Does the light I carried grow faint and dim? Am I burdened by sins that aren’t my own, Or judged by the seeds of what I’ve sown? I sought to stop them; my heart was true, But the world didn’t bend as I wanted it to. Now I ask, with guilt as my guide— Am I innocent, or did I abide?
