I am gonna be snotty, so prepare yourselves

I've noticed that - in general, not just on boo - people who write poetry tend to share their first drafts online. Which to me is just... Bafflingly insane. I could never share a first draft to anyone but a close confidante. A poem in it's first draft is, to me, nothing but emotional puke in raw form on a page (word processor) and nothing like the coherent fully realized idea that comes after rewrites and edits. To not sit on and improve a piece of writing is doing the piece and the emotional weight you want it to transfer is a huge disservice to both the piece and the emotions! Your initial "deposit" doesn't have the precision of a finely tuned instrument and the weight of it's marble slab hits much harder when it's been chiseled into a statue. Anywho, I've often wondered if this is just something that people are just ignorant of - that all published writing isn't the first draft, it's the billionth draft and trillionth edit. That maybe they'd be less willing to show unfinished ideas if that were more common knowledge.
