So for those that voiced their support for Ukraine
Why did you care about this war? Some claimed it was about race, some say it's a distraction, some say this war aligned with political interests (There are many other ongoing conflicts but I don't think there was such an overwhelming "support", such as Yemen, Myanmar, Afghanistan, etc?). What are your thoughts?

I knew some Ukrainians in college who taught me - as someone who grew up in the Cold War - that Ukrainians are *not* Russians. I used to call everyone in the USSR (and then the FSU) a Russian ... but I learned that wasn't the case. I learned that our history focuses on the terrible Holocaust caused by Hitler, but we ignore the nearly 4 million Ukrainians killed by Stalin's farming policies in the early 1930s. I remember being so proud of Ukraine during the Orange Revolution - seeing them shed the autocratic Soviet past and seek a new life, a new identity. The Orange Revolution sparked several more "color" revolutions throughout Eastern Europe. I had a friend at the time who would travel to Eastern Europe on a regular basis, and he would bring back reports. So, to see Russia try to erase all of that ... it breaks my heart. For me, the story of Ukraine reflects why we fought the Cold War (okay, yes, the Cold War was way more complicated - but seeing the Ukrainian people made it more real for me). I didn't know anyone from Myanmar or Afghanistan or Yemen growing up. So much of the history in those conflicts go back hundreds of years - and unlike the Cold War, which you could get away from in the 1980s - I didn't have much exposure to those countries. Afghanistan was just some country USSR invaded, and resulted in the Olympic boycotts for the 1980 Moscow Games and 1984 Los Angeles Games (remember Mary Lou Retton?). But at the time, Afghanistan was just a place on the map. I didn't hear the stories of the people then. So there was little emotional connection. In other words, my cultural exposure growing up was Eurocentric. I've tried to become more aware of other world issues, and I feel more informed than I did growing up. But I don't have the same cultural connection I feel with Ukraine. Plus, I was raised to "hate" the Russians. So, that comes far easier for me than it ought to. (I've met Russians, too, so I know they are not what the 1980s propaganda made them out to be. I even tried taking Russian for a year ... but I couldn't get my mouth to make those sounds - too many consonants thrown together.) Does that answer your question?

Because this war is nothing but a game for Russian politicians. They use any dirty tactic to get whatever they want, and then complain when countries join nato and expand closer to Russia. Have you tried being nice and not invading countries out of greed for more territory? I'm sorry, but killing people over resources or territory is not moral, no matter if the US, Europe, or Russia does it. And in this scenario Russia is on the wrong side. Specially since they are using tons of prohibited arsenal, while commiting every war crime possible. Its disgusting to see

Not allowing Russia to become apart of nato nor reap the benifits of eu bilateraltrade limentent a solid sour taste to many of the Russians in the south especially as our economies worsened due to pandemic. But alot more of the support is truthfully for Ukraine because they much more similar to the Anglosphere as aposed to other regions listed. It's a bias in all people to help those like you, be it race, language or religion etc.. that is my perspective sbaciba
