Polyamorous LDR and romantic love?

I live in a small, rural town, really conservative and I don't quite fit in but for many reasons, I don't want to move. I also don't want anyone moving in with me, ever (solo poly). But I also want a romantic connection, to fall in love with someone who understands me and loves me back. (Currently I have a best friend with benefits. He's wonderful but his feelings for me are affectionate, not romantic.) So I'm considering whether a long distance relationship would be a good option for me. My concerns would be that most people seeking a LTR probably just want it to be casual and also it's hard to form an initial bond without frequent contact. Anyone have an example of it working in the absence of any intention to move in together in the future?

I have a LDR with my boyfriend.. We have zero intention of meeting at the moment. We known each other a little over 2 years. We message eachother daily and have videocalls at least once a week. It takes a lot of patience and understanding but it works for us and it works for my marriage. So, in my very personal experience, it can be done.

I can definitely relate. Living in Alaska, this whole state is like living in a small rural town. I've also been thinking about LDR and solo polyamory. I'm demisexual so I definitely want some romance and I often wonder if I can find it through solo poly/LDR with some travel or nomadic lifestlye. I think I need to work past the doubt and put myself out there 🤷🏽‍♂️😅
