How do you justify your existence when the person your entire purpose was centered on is dead?

My whole life my purpose was to provide confort, happiness and in general a better life to my mom. And I could not be at her side when she died. She died a slow and painful death and I was incapable of doing anything. Rn the only duty that keeps me functioning to some extent is helping my relatives, but in total honesty I don't really care about them. How can a man justify his worth when he wasn't even able to fulfill his duty to his mother? (edited)

Like you said you were incapable of helping, you should look for purpose in yourself, you didn't fail your duty as a son,you didn't fail at all,you did all you could, people often find peace in helping others when they should help themselves too,I hope you find answers, and remember........whatever your beliefs, your mother is out there somewhere, whether it be as energy, entity or whatever, energy never dies,it's transferred

Your entire life's purpose was not caring for your mother. Up to this point you made your life's MISSION to ease things for her. That mission has been fulfilled and seen-thru. You did it! It might not be an uplifting victory, but you accomplished your mission. With that done, it is now time to focus on yourself and find what your life's PURPOSE is.

You are mistaken that your purpose was related to someone else. You are worth so much more. Your existence is your own. Give yourself a new purpose.

I'm so sad for you but don't blame yourself. I doubt she would want you to do that.
