My take: I feel like it's ok to a degree to "ghost" somebody, notice how I'm using the term loosely as for me personally, I associate the word itself as to not responding to an individual in any given amount of time. In my own opinion, it's not really an obligation for you to respond back if you've only exchanged a line or two but I can totally understand and envision that an responsibility must be put in either parties if an establishment has occured where both had put in ample amount of time and effort constituting to the current situation.
