Your empathy is a gift. Your empathy allows you to connect with people. This makes you a great listener and a person people can open up to. Being an empath is a blessing, but also a curse if you don’t know how to use it

Thank you for the kind words. It absolutely helps to connect with people on sincere levels but can also be debilitating. I tend to forget about my own needs and constantly put others before me.

@Matt You’re welcome! I wish empathy was nurtured more in our society. It’s honestly a superpower :) I’ve seen some books about it on Amazon that looked intriguing

@Matt say a little prayer or give light to the person going through pain (ex: I give them a spiritual hug and say “I’m sorry”), then allow yourself to move on by telling yourself, this is all I can do

@Popovitch Yeah, for sure - seems like anything involving psyche is shunned in todays environment. I got to look for a "controlling your empathy" book - but that just sounds like sympathy at that point 🥲

@Popovitch That's good advice, thank you. I can only do so much before I start damaging myself.

@Matt I've learned to take a lot of self care time, reorient myself to my situation, and self-talk myself to understanding that I can do my best to help (if I can) and if I can't do anything more, I can accept and move on. It's not easy, and I do a lot of journaling. Being naturally empathic is a trait I am thankful to have, but I understand it's a double edge sword. I just try to be true with myself and try to do what I can to help when I have the ability to do so. I hope this path becomes easier for you.

@Popovitch That makes a lot of sense. I've also heard once before, "take care of yourself so that you're better equipped to help others". I really appreciate you taking the time to condole, thank you. I wish you the absolute best on your journey ❤

Yes, it can be. You must have boundaries of steel, lol.

It's tough when you've been through so much! I can relate to a lot and am very understanding, so empathy always follows 😅

This is a question of balance. You have to figure it out yourself as it does depend on plural factors! Empathy is the key: keep cultivating this quality, Matt! 😀

It can be. You must be able to have groudedness and a solid sense of self as to not lose yourself or misconstrue your identity in the attempt of trying to view and relate to others

Empathy indeed help you connect with people but yes being too empathic is a bad thing only for the empath ,being able to 'take their place' makes you have their emotions above yours even when the conversation might be over because if you can't let go of their feelings you're kind of making their problem yours, and you trying to find a solution about it in order to help .Also is bad because some people might haven't met any people that listens to what they have to say (empathic or not) and there's a chance they will start having a weird attraction to you and misstranslate this feeling as "sexual interest/love" even if that's wasn't your intention
