Introverts: unlearn the habit of apologizing for being an Introvert

Example: Extrovert: "There's a party this weekend. Are you coming ?" Introvert: "I am so sorry, it would awesome but I am seeing my family this weekend (an excuse). You guys have fun !." What you're doing here to the Extrovert is sending a false message. You're basically saying that you want to be invited next time round because you're gonna love it. The Extrovert will keep inviting you. You're apologizing for who you are basically. Much better answer: Extrovert: "You're coming to the party ?" Introvert: "I am sorry to disappoint you but I need some time alone this weekend. This is how I recharge my batteries. I am having a busy week schedule" In this instance, you're sorry to disappoint the Extrovert who would love to have you at the party. You're not apologizing for being an Introvert. You explain to the Extrovert who you are so they can understand you better. Most likely they won't be pushing so much in the future. There's much better understanding from both sides. It's respectful (as you're not saying: "No, I am Introvert, I hate parties !") because you're considerate of an Extrovert who might be bit sad for not having you at that party. It's a win-win situation in my view.

This is a brilliant post, Chris. I do agree. Communication is the key. Unfortunately, most people tend to forget this wisdom... Thank you for this marvellous text! Thoughtful, inspiring and well-crafted! I'm sure everyone will relate to it! 😀

Yeah this happens with every introvert, sometimes they want to get involved in parties but being an introvert they don't get interact with anyone, and slowly they think being at home was better than this, they feel lonely even at parties, and from next time onwards they just stops coming to parties or gives excuses

Yeah this often happens, but I mainly wanted to stress the importance of being authentic so an Extrovert can understand the Introvert. Excuses create confusion on the Extrovert side and they create discomfort for an Introvert who can often just be lying to himself. It's a habit that Introverts should unlearn in my view. It takes practice but being yourself and educating others is great for society. There's more understanding from both sides, no faking anything, being respectful to one another but also to yourself (as Introvert I wouldn't be pushing myself to attend as many social gatherings as I can just to make my Extroverted friends happy), it's a form of self care as well. Introversion is often misunderstood these days, often people confuse it with depression or social anxiety, shyness, lack of confidence whereas it has nothing to do with any of that.
