Maybe it's not about beating anything. Maybe it's about facing our pain with grace and radical acceptance. It's about integrating the parts in us that we resent and avoid. To understand that we're not broke, we're just human beings trying to survive in this madness and navigate societal expectations, that we've developed some unhealthy coping mechanisms. It's a neverdending taking care of ourselves and becoming more in touch with our needs and emotions. It's about riding the waves of life.

There's nothing to beat. No one to take over. It's all us, but we keep clinging to the parts that we want and try to push away, alienate and fight the parts we don't. That's something we are taught our whole lives, people reward us for being the way they want us to and punish us for behaviours they don't like. So we just continue that abuse towards ourselves because we consider it normal. But every part of us is still us and demands our acceptance, attention and love. And when it doesn't get it, it shuts down or starts screaming louder and louder... And we call it "mental illness". Previously it was "demons". And it's all us. In need of our own love and acceptance.

Lets see that’s a deeply honest and important question. In psychology, we often recognize that mental health isn’t about "beating" our issues once and for all, but learning how to live with and manage them in ways that allow us to lead meaningful lives. Mental struggles may not disappear entirely, but with support, therapy, medication, self-awareness, and resilience, we can reduce their power over us. The goal isn't just to exist or function mechanically but to build a life where, even amidst difficulties, there is purpose, connection, and growth. Troubled minds can feel overwhelming, but they don’t have to define us. With help and persistence, we can reclaim space for joy, peace, and agency in our own lives.
