Consumerism
Christmas is rough this year for my family. I'm grateful that we're receiving help and have family to help with gifts for our kiddos. No matter what I'll always feel obligated to provide ridiculous gifts and activities to make my children happy. The holiday season is full of pressure and comparison. What's more important when you're older materials or memories? Consumerism is very depressing 🥲🥲 (edited)

Gifts don’t have to be expensive. They can be simple on the outside but deeply meaningful to the recipient. It’s not just that “the thought counts” it’s that the meaning matters. Memories are important, yes, but a thoughtful gift tied to a strong memory can be just as meaningful… or even create lasting memories. I do think memories are ultimately more important, but the question is more nuanced than simply memories versus gifts.

Just so you know, Dollar General cycles through seasonal products, and products that are well out of season get marked down to 1 cent. There are people who track when products go out of season. Employees are supposed to pull them from shelves, but they usually end up in the discount sections or on top of shelves because employees are too overworked to bother.
