7He's one of the contrarian psychologists and have one of the most intense and wild takes in psychology, but he's original. He argues that emotional empathy might be involved in bias and violence even. He's not saying empathy is useless but it's not perfection . If you haven't, you should really check out his videos. I know this all sounds like a oxymoron but studying empathy in depth could lead to pretty ridiculous results (edited)

5To be fair, empathy is just understanding how another thinks, responds and feels. Empathy is only good for manipulation or teaching others how to be self aware. It has no other uses outside of those two... well not many anyway He is mistaking empathy for compasionate, which then again given how languge evolves probably is the new definition.... but I agree with his take compassion often can lead to very destructive and accidentally abusive tendencies. Its very common for absuers to actually care alot about their abuse victim and is unknowingly harming them due to their compassion being more important than the individuals they are trying to help or care for.
