I'd love to hear the psychological perspective on this.
Can someone explain to me why I am so comforted by apocalyptic scenarios and end of the world movies? As an elder Millenials, I understand that our generation is a bit of a nihilistic one, but there's something so comforting to me about watching end of the world movies like The Day After Tomorrow and 28 Days Later and I think we experienced that, you know a fraction of that, during the pandemic. There was part of me that was like "I'm ready for this! This is what I was born for!" It's strange and dark and a little sad and really aligns with who I was growing up and I think there's something to be said about a generation that was faced with once in a lifetime world events, catastrophes is a better word, back-to-back throughout our lives growing up and how maybe, that feels nostalgic to us in a very twisted way? I honestly never thought I'd live to be old. I never had foresight in financial or career terms because of it. I have little interest in owning land or reproducing as a result. It's like a subconscious blockage. And several people my age I've spoken to, share this morbid perspective.

There are many levels to this. It's similar to a woman wanting a father figure to dominate her but not her actual biological father because that would be just to much. It's exciting to think of the world changing or the emotion that it would bring if you knew everything was all about to end . There is an allure to things because your imagination can be so much better than real life. But when it comes right down to it are you able to live out those things without fear ? That's the question. Live your truth and bring your imagination to life. It can help you work through all those things.

I think various groups have fantasized about the end of civilization since it began development and what you're experiencing is an iteration of that to some degree. As to why we experience it, I think because, we seek a sense of self controll and freedom not afforded to us under the modern economic structures, we sacrifice individuality inorder to support large socioeconomic structures which benefits the group but as individuals we feel might feel exploited. So if society collapses we get our individuality back in the form of time, which is utilized for one's own survival as opposed to society's.

In my opinion and I am no expert, you know of only one life, your own. Its all you know and it's all you will ever know, and no matter how bad or good it is, in those apocalyptic scenarios/ end of the world movies, that is far worst then the life you are living. And then there the fact that who doesn't like good story

You know, I don't think your strange for thinking like that, I think in those scenarios it's easier to live in those types of worlds because they are easier than the multi tasking world we live in. I know personally I would rather live in some sort of fortress in a zombie apocalypse than have to continually worry about my work performance, how I constructed an email to the colleague,do I have enough money to maintain all the bills that I have, can I say the right thing my significant other, how come they're not talking to me? Who is going to be able to watch my kids tonight, My friend's constantly want me to hang out,but I just wanna do nothing at home and relax. All those simple tasks add up in my own life and it gives me Anxiety, And sometimes I wish I could just have a scenario where only had one thing to focus on lol In those types of scenarios, it forces you to abandon all the tasks that have been building up and puts you on a level where you only focus on what matters. So in a way that can be very comforting.
