feeling like an outsider and I want answers! ;)

i'm a new boo, boohoo. I've been thinking about collectivism lately. is it just a natural progression of being social? do we all have a need to join groups? do we have a need to think as a group? to me collectivism always has the cost of abandoning part of the search for our true selves. we pay that price sometimes unconsciously or sometimes overtly when we give up some of our individuality in order to be part of the group. individuals pay a different kind of price for doing things and having thoughts that the group disapproves of. true individuals are usually shouted down in the public square. how i relate this to boo...brace yourself...the whole match by personality type thing to find friends and lovers that are JUST LIKE YOU seems to corral the incoming herd into these groups that will think similarly and make it easier to connect. fine. i like easy. and i'm afraid that's my downfall. any thoughts to share?

There's always going to be a trade off. Do we try to find our partners, lovers, friends, tribe on our own? It's so difficult to meet anyone anymore. The old approaches have fallen away. With the dawn of tech, we've become so disconnected. Individualism has been touted as the way to achieve growth but don't we need people to help us grow into our best selves? Reflection, debate, brainstorming, even criticism, helps us find and define our "self". I don't know what the answer is. I am neuro so I tend to remain "outside" of most groups, even when I want to be included. Two cents, nothing more. (edited)

Humans need a sense of belonging, it allows them to feel safer and open up more, this leads to connections and bonds. It doesn't control you or relieve you of your individuality

As a woman of a certain age, that moment when the tie to group mentality snapped was... incandescent. I no longer have any f*u*c*k*s to gove about what people think. My "group" is one I've curated for myself. I've got one "old" group, of the girls I grew up with, and one "new" group, of the friends I met here. None of the ones I met here were through matching.

I never identified with a group, and I've never been part of a group except for as an outsider looking into it to see if it had anything special which from my first comment u can assume rightly I didn't find in any of them. I don't think we are in need of joining any groups, I don't think it's a need or a natural tendency but I would like to point out that an individual person on their own is only capable of so much and having so much power. All powerful people in a society have either the support of other people or of tools that give them power like a pen or a gun or a something but it's not them that actually has any power because if u take away the support they are just a normal everyday human. To be an independant critical thinker not needing or wanting to join any groups out of desperation requires one to be a fairly humble person who isn't looking for certain things like power, or status, or influence or whatever, and that's probably why there's not many who've had my life experience, people are looking for something which requires groups or power to achieve, that or they don't like just being a normal equal with everyone else who is without a doubt just a normal individual when u take away everything else they have appeared as through playing social games

Poll time: in mathematics, it is said that Two of the same signs (+ and + or − and −) become a positive sign (+) , Two different signs (+ and − in either order) become a negative sign (−). Translating this into real life non-mathematical situations, are there times when no actually means yes to you?

Yes, sometimes a no can mean a yes.

No, no is no, period
