Influencer culture a net negative for society?

Influencers are people who have the ability to change a lot of hearts and minds in a particular audience. For example, Kim Kardashian might be considered an influencer for makeup and shapewear. Some YouTube and Tik Tok stars like Pewdipie can get millions of followers to buy things on a whim. One issue is they often set unrealistic standards (beauty, wealth, ability, etc.) that can be damaging to young people who don't realize it's not real. They often spread misinformation. Many of them are underage. They often tell their audience to buy products without sharing they're making money to say so. What do you think about influencers and our culture of idolizing them? Should we tolerate them? Regulate them? Ignore them? Encourage them?

Some influncers have a positive or negative impact on different people. I would say it depends on the person. However I don't agree that they should be idolized. (edited)

The word itself is downright creepy. First (and second and third) time I heard it, I didn't believe someone would unironically use such a label. We all manipulate someone now and then, but keep some subtlety and don't turn it into a public point of pride.
