When I'm sad, I let myself be sad for a little bit, depending on where I am. Then, I try and make myself feel better with music, books, coffee/tea, stuffed animals, spending time with loved ones. The reason I'm sad normal choices the thing I do to feel better.

Sometimes you just need to be sad for a bit and allow yourself that time. After that I'll listen to music, sing, dance, talk with friends, watch a movie that I love, go do an activity like kayaking, walking, etc. What I need to do to cheer myself up can vary. I dated this guy that was being shady. I allowed myself to be sad and angry. I took some time for me after that. I took a nap, wallowed and listened to sad music,was anti-social for part of the day, then talked with a friend, and went out to eat with a friend.

I personally investigate, asking myself why I'm sad, when was the first time I felt this particular type of sadness, forgiving people who specifically hurt me in that way, praying, rejecting any emotional lies I learned from those times, asking God for His word and perspective on the subject, and replacing the lies with His truth. I find that pain haunts me and history repeats itself if I don't address every pain and misbehavior I find inside myself like that, thus I'm strongly invested into various elements of emotional healing. All pain needs to be acknowledged as important enough to listen to until you can say that its purpose has been fulfilled, because you feel it for a reason; you need to know the difference between right and wrong, to know that your feelings matter, that your heart demands a place like heaven to live in and a good God to be loved by, and that this broken world is not your original home, but it is a place of trial and destiny. Your tears are important to God, they're a form of prayer themselves, and only God knows exactly how to hear and answer them perfectly every time.

As someone with depression listen to sad music to suit my mood. Or to go and watch something on you tube to try to make me laugh! Or binge on stuff i reallu want to watch with snacks

When I was depressed, I wallowed in that misery until I got sick of being sad. The feeling got boring. Then I chose to be happy again and started trying things that made me happy. Upbeat music, time outdoors, social events, cooking, having a clean house.

Sometimes sadness is necessary. Enjoy as needed first, but wake up soon. Having a hobby is one way. Like listening to fun music or reading comics.
