Misjudging Someone

Have you ever been told that your face doesn't match your personality? Or that people assume you will be a certain way due to your appearance? How did you handle situations like this? I notice sometimes being in male/masc. dominated spaces, women sometimes have to prove themselves due to perceptions of gender. Do you have experiences like this?

Every now and then I’ve been told I look mean. So sometimes I smile even when I don’t want to. To appear more approachable unless I don’t want to be approached;)

I used to be a product developer and work directly with the programmers at an internet company. I definitely experienced people treating me better once they got to know me and realized I was good at my job and an excellent manager. I'm not sure the best way to handle people underestimating you except be better than expected and take it one day at a time. Frankly, that whole dynamic is part of what made me decide to start working for myself.

Yup, people see my face and expect a sweet, compliable girl... To later discover I'm a strong ass woman with the mouth of a sailor, who loves to work with the grime... The rough parts is when they disregard me and what I have to say because of their initial impression... There's a lot of jobs I didnt get due to my looks 😑 ..and at jobs people can think I look stern or interpret my resting aloof face as disinterest so I never get invited to hang out... I once got invited to a party by accident and after that, the one holding the party was flabberghasted as to how much fun I was and gave me an open invitation (edited)

I've been told before that my voice doesn't match me because I sound way deeper than they expect and well being mexican they just assume I can't speak English. It's hilarious when I see the shock in their faces when they see me talk very fluent english. Even funnier is when the put me in charge of training them and they have to deal with the awkward situation they put themselves in.
