9moDoes Marriage really matter?
For anyone who happens to read this… Do you believe in marriage... yes or no? And what made you feel that way? No debates, no pressure... just honest thoughts. Because for me . Honestly, I don’t fully believe in marriage. What’s the point of a wedding if, in the end, people still walk away? A certificate can’t create love, respect, or loyalty. those are built every day through choices and effort. Even with kids involved, marriage itself doesn’t guarantee stability. What really matters is how parents show up, care for each other, and protect their children. The bond, the effort, and the commitment .. that’s what shapes a family, not the papers or ceremony. Marriage can be meaningful spiritually or legally, but I believe real love and family come from actions, not signatures...

Marriage protects property and assets. It's a contract between two people (sometimes families as well). Also a social standing type thing. Marriage was romanticized to be this thing that couples do when they're so in love and wanna put a label on it like oh so many things. Personally I can do without. I'd rather have a vow ceremony. I can love and care and respect my partner without a piece of paper. The only reason I would do it is to ensure they are taken care of health wise and after my death.
Marriage lost it's importance after a large number of society removed values essential to a real union. Ultimately removing the emotional side it has always been a contract between families not the couple. Since no real gain comes from most marriage they ultimately divorce after the honeymoon faze wears off. Due to the lack of the seven pillars of marriage from both parts
I think it mostly depends upon the culture and the environment we live in. Everything happens according to that. For env I meant the values and how they're seeing the world from their pov that.
I think I do believe in marriage yeah, but I think my belief comes from love with one person and a promise to only love that one person and nobody else. I think it also comes from religion. Doing things the right way, as long as you get to pick who you wanna be with and live with. I think you should only get married if you both love each other, will never leave each other and you want to make it official. I think children just make things harder if both parents are already struggling. Maybe better to not have any children until you're mentally secure.
Yes and totally agree with bt! Its a "document" proof for any government, health care, or any institution out there that REQUIRED document(s) if you willing to COMMIT to marriage to be husband and wife. There are "common law" as well that vary if you live with someone for so long, you are technically marry. Even to bring somone to live in a different country REQUIRED document(s). For someone to show they love you, they do that for you. Back before, it was fake love for MONEY only to bring them here in US. Society change and government audit going forward and as well strict immigration policy. Lots of process to go before being a citizen to certain countries but vary country to country. If just that country, you can get away with being b/f and g/f and dont deal with the messy divorce unless kid(s) are involve...ugly mess. Your decision alone is how you see fit in your lifestyle how it dictate....to be marry(legal government document) or not to be marry....akuna matata! Haha.
I'm not against marriage. I am answering purely from an debate standpoint. I believe marriage is an antiquated form of relationship not fit for today's age. The concept of "marriage" comes mostly from medieval times in order to stop wars between different families and the way to do so would be to unite the families through marrying children from both families. The second role of marriage also comes from the same time and is to bring together the fortunes from both families and this is why families tended to find partners from the same class or with the same nobility ranks. This way they ensure that the wealth would grow with each generation. I believe in monogamy for myself but realistically, I don't think we humans are monogamous by nature but we forced it upon ourselves through social constructs such as marriage. Lastly, marriage doesn't guarantee anything. You can be in a loving relationship without having to go through marriage. The main reason people marry today tends to be mostly (but not limited to) having some degree of certainty with regards to their partner or themselves. That certainty could be (again, not limited to) financial, emotional, social/family pressure, etc. (edited)
It’s more for protecting people, medically with a partners health plan, or financially with separation of assets if the couple split. Until legal and financial policies update along with a new generations ideas of relationships, marriage as an institution will still be considered the “goal”. And it’s a multibillion dollar industry, so much of the pressure is often guided by the industry
I believe in life-long partnerships, which marriage is just one word and concept for, but I no longer believe in marriage as anything sacred. This is due to governmental laws regarding what a marriage is or isn't, which can ignore definitions and traditions of other cultures and religions and ultimately places marriage as nothing more than a civil contract for tax and inheritance purposes. Marriage has lost its true meaning and diversity.
