I think most people first inherit their values and only later choose which ones they really want to keep. In childhood, we absorb a lot from family, culture, religion, school, and the people we admire. Often we call this "our values" without ever stopping to question them. Over time, experiences, mistakes, relationships, and frustrations make some people think: "Do I really believe this or did I just learn to believe it?"

Some we inherit and others we choose with our life experiences.

Depends what stage in life they are. Some parents will try teach certain values onto their children, those can be seen as inherited (if the child goes on to upkeeping those values) but as we grow older and live through our own experiences we end up choosing what values best fit us, through our experiences. No two people will see through the same lens, so no matter what we are taught, we tend to adjust through personal experiences.

Unfortunately, some inherit them as they are family, but one can choose them.

Choose
1mo
I think it's both. Part is inherited, part is chosen, part is imposed by the system (state, media, religion, friends, and society).
1mo
They are definitely chosen.

Personally, I think a bit of both, education plays a role and involves values. Just as experiences give rise to certain

They inherit them, but everyone is free to choose whether to follow them or not.

Inherit
1mo
One inherits a foundation, then one builds their own. Sometimes it's difficult.
1mo
I think most people inherit their values at first, but eventually choose which ones they actually want to live by.
1mo
We choose. We get something from our parents/grandparents, we take something from home, but each of us has our own values that we follow - even if our loved ones impose/force certain behaviors, if they don't align with our values, they will eventually fail... That's why everyone should live in accordance with their own values and share them with people who support them/think similarly.
1mo
I think it depends on the person... I believe we all inherit them up to a certain age... Until maturity decides whether to keep them or adopt new values.
1mo
Choose because not everything comes from inheritance.
1mo
It's a choice that stems from that of the parents.

Both factors influence

We are raised in a certain way, but when we grow up we can see if those values are truly real and good.
1mo
If we inherit but mostly we choose them ourselves
1mo
I think very few people actually choose their values; the vast majority are swayed by what their environment says or believes. In some cases, that's fine, but in others, it wouldn't hurt to review them, for everyone's sake.
1mo
A bit of both I suppose, some have shaped us, and others come to us through the adventures...
1mo
I personally have my own, not inherited from family.
1mo
We inherit and then we start selecting the ones we want to keep in our lives.

Values are choices! Since we have the ability to choose... what changes over time is the engine and awareness of our chosen values... (Short answer, if you want the full explanation, write to me(? Ah.
1mo
%50 inheritance - %50 we choose ourselves. But as we get older, this ratio changes in favor of our own choices.
1mo
We inherit them from the different people who make up our lives over time, but it is clear that we ultimately choose them ourselves.
