Facial symmetry, skin quality, posture, and expression are processed rapidly and largely unconsciously. As a result, visual information automatically becomes the first available and most efficient signal in mate selection, regardless of gender. Premise 2: Textual information enables higher-order evaluation. Written profiles allow assessment of traits that cannot be inferred visually, such as personality, intelligence, values, humor, emotional maturity, and relationship goals. This information supports slower, more reflective decision-making and is especially relevant for people seeking long-term or meaningful connections. Premise 3: Decision strategies depend on available information. When a profile contains little or no textual content, users are cognitively forced to rely on the information that is present, namely images. This is not superficiality but an adaptive response to informational scarcity. Meaningful text is a prerequisite for being evaluated on non-visual dimensions.
