These days, it is sadly not uncommon to hear stories of women whose weddings are called off even after every detail has been prepared because they discover that the men they were about to marry already have children with other women.

Perhaps the simplest form of kindness in a relationship is honesty. To be honest from the very beginning is to respect another person’s time, emotions, and right to make an informed choice about their own life. No one should have to invest months, years, or an entire future in a relationship only to discover something important that could and should have been revealed from the start. I cannot speak for everyone, but for me, the truth itself is not necessarily the problem. If something is within my capacity to accept, I will accept it, whether I discover it on my own or someone else tells me. But if it is something I cannot accept, then no amount of love can change that. It would not matter whether I learned the truth before marriage or only after we were married the outcome would ultimately be the same. Love may give us the courage to accept many things, but it cannot force us to accept what is fundamentally beyond our boundaries. That is why honesty from the first day matters. It gives both people the freedom to choose with open eyes. If we can accept the truth, we stay and build something together. If we cannot, we walk away before more time, trust, and emotion are lost. In the end, honesty does not guarantee that a relationship will last. But it does ensure that whatever choice we make is a choice made freely, consciously, and with respect for one another.
