Why does the society demand that people should get married and if we dont get married due to personal reasons, than the society start judging us?

Example one of my friend is 30 years old and in a 12 years relationship, without having married or being engaged with that person so far. Now her mother always tells her to have kids soon, because otherwise complications may occur. Her mother doesn’t understand that she is still in a relationship, without being married yet. ….Now obviously she’s starting to get pregnant, because of the pressure of her mother. I am 31 years old and the most frequently topic that is being discussed, when meeting other people is, why aren’t you married? …. you should get married and start your own family! Is it so difficult to live with the fact that there are some people in this world, who just want to live without following those ridiculous social norms!
