No to marriage. Marriage as an institution has not changed alongside the industralization of our society. Pre-industrialization, marriage was a means to consolidate power and property, if you were upper-class, or for survival, if you were lower-class. In lower class, men would marry women based on potential reproductive ability or on their strength, to help "around the farm." In either case, marriage had a huge contractual aspect to it, free of romance and emotion. With the Industrial Revolution, the means to produce and consume have changed. The idea of success or happiness was to strike it rich, being your own person - being individual instead of being part of a unit or, in this case, a couple. Up until recently, economic considerations played a part in marriage, with romantic reasons becoming equally important. Marriage was never meant for the burdens of contemporary society. Today, the expectation of marriage is more than the financial. Your spouse is your best friend, your lover, and the person you sent time with recreationally; ideally, the spouse is committed and completely honest. It wasn't meant to carry that much emotional weight, or have your spouse acting in multiple roles. That frieight of responsibilty and emotional load is too much for it. Sorry.
