A week or 2 ago, I did a poll on Boo universe about women being a good cook for a longer lasting long-term relationship. Since then I read about a Harvard study finding that women who don’t cook for their husbands have happier marriages. The study found that Women who don’t cook for their husbands rated their marriages an average of 8.4/10, while those who cooked daily rated them 6.1/10. And Husbands whose wives didn’t cook for them rated their relationship 8.1/10, compared to 5.9/10 for those who were constantly served. Thoughts for how to be a happy couple? They’re the ones who cook together, take turns, or order in without guilt. (In my past marriage, I basically cooked almost all dinners except when he wanted his steak done a certain way...Although that was hardly a main factor leading up to the divorce, it's interesting to know that research shows he should have maybe cooked more) (edited)

Super interesting. I grew up seeing my mum serve my dad's dinner at 5pm on the dot and how utterly miserable she was. Personally I would never want to be 'The Chef' in a relationship, but as I have a stomach disease and need to select food carefully, I wouldn't want someone to have to deal with that either. Best stay alone 🤪

Are we still questioning this? I feel like I just expected us to take turns and it's no big deal. Unless he's some huge provider but even than, don't they have money to learn? This would get old with me quick. I don't mind teaching though. Even I thought it was a lot to learn later in life. (edited)

I think there may be some factors there not considered. I think the couples who didn't cook and were happier, were happier because they expected less from their partner. Even if your partner cooks every day, if you expect it you probably appreciate it less and don't consider it when thinking about the happiness of your relationship.

Harvard, especially Harvard sociology studies, cannot be trusted because the data and statistical analyses are pruned. Those women cooking might just be simply terrible cooks, causing their husbands to be unsatisfied, in turn women are unsatisfied. And when those women don't cook, husbands can get better food so the relationship is more satisfying

Interesting. Well I always opted to cook. And its nothing about my prior partner couldn't cook or it was bad. In fact she could. I'm just always the 1st one there to just do it. 🤷‍♂️

It may be related to cultural beliefs and educations. Someone too much into "pratriarcal" thingy may believe each of women and men have a specific place in life, and in the couple. That may be a more serious explanation than "who is cooking for who ?" theories. Since each, as well as women and men, would consider normal that woman is cooking and cleaning the house while man is bringing money to home. But are they happy with this ? When you try to fit in, are you more happy than whe free and respectful of others work, and sharing work and tasks instead of having a boss with slaves ?
