More than friendship or play it in a certain way as to not get rejected or have fear of some kind. So they aren’t direct and that is one way they end up in the friend zone (I know they might end up in the friend zone irrelevant of this, but this is still true). My advice to guys is to let the girl know in the first days of talking that you have a romantic interest in her. Then ask her to be honest in answering if she’s interested in you in the same way. Then if she says”yes”, ask her if she would like to start off as friends so there’s less discomfort and so both of you can show each other who you both are with less pressure. (edited)

This is very true. Honestly I think our society isn't set up for direct communication. When it's constantly about putting on a happy face and being polite by following manners, no one can say what they actually feel or want or need. So indirect and passive aggressive communication is sort of the norm. And you get treated weird if you are someone who just says what they mean (as I can attest to). But yes, not just a woman thing by any means. Plenty of men aren't straight forward. Sometimes the way it comes out is different but it's still not direct communication.
