I think the core of any good relationship is based on emotional connection. If you guys really connected and got to know each other and loved one another then hell yeah it was real. Intimacy is not trapped in the physical realm alone.

I believe if there is a chemical bond and a connection that it was real. If they Ling for you, mourn over your passing presence, are there for you, and are good to you then it was a real relationship

Online, to say the least instills false confidence in the relationship. While yes its real and true, unless you find ways to overcome that distance to make it physical in likely won't last. The same can be said for those who exist now, ans go distant for education or jobs etc. And it's perfectly fine if it doesn't last either
