I think generally 1-2 years is a good amount of time. Less than a year and you may not know them well. You haven't even seen them at every holiday yet. Over 2 years if you're still not sure, that's a sign there is something holding you back. But it also depends on age. I think older people don't need to date as long as younger people, because they have a better idea of what they want. Like a 20 year old should dates at least 2 years, but a 30 year old may know in under a year.

Personally, after 6 months we both know how serious the relationship is, we can start talking about engagement and marriage. I prefer the engagement to be 2 years before marriage, just so we would fit all the festivities together and family bonding. And this time is enough to build proper foundation preparing for life during marriage.

I would say that depends on how mature you both are and how intentional you have been in getting to know each other. My wife and I would have skipped dating if family wouldn't have been upset so we dated for 7 months before getting engaged and we're only engaged about 4 months before we got married.

Hmm, Then how long did you get to know her when you didn't date her yet?

@M Our story is a little odd. I met her when she was still in high school, 16, and had no interest in her at all in a romantic sense because I was 25 at the time. After about 7 to 8 months it was clear to both of us that someday when she was older we would get married but that was way down the road. Her mom found out and I was told not to speak to her again. So we both respected her mother's wishes and waited about a year and a half. Now she was 18 and a legal adult so her mom couldn't really tell her what to do anymore. We started dating at that point, that was September and we're married July the next year. So for us we knew just being friends for less than a year. But honestly, waiting for each other for a year and half really solidified our relationship. It tested both our resolves and in the end we came out stronger because of it. So maybe more couples should try out waiting for a period of time without interaction? 🤔 Who knows.

It would be of endless times. We would never feel it's enough. When we have that thought, then marriage could be a recommended choice 😌

2 years feels about right but over 6 months is the bare minimum. People can only hide their true colors for 6 months usually.

I think the more time to know each other, the better it would be. You have to be sure about your feelings and rational things. :)
