I'm really excited for sodium batteries, not because it's performance, but because it's cheap and almost as good as li-ion stuff. Otherwise air breathing batteries seems to be a good way to go too. And lithium can also be improved a lot with Li-S batteries and ceramic batteries. On another level, antimatter stuff are really impressive too, and we actually work on it as we're able to produce antimatter (it like an atom per min but still).
