Nietzsche thought the same thing, in his book Thus Spoke Zarathustra. Zarathustra, or Zoroaster, comes down from the mountain he has been living on. He enters a city, and at the city square he exclaims "God is dead. God will remain dead. And we killed him. How shall we comfort ourselves, the murderers of all murderers?". No one there really pays any attention to him. It's not a shocking, or controversial statement. Because the point Nietzsche is making is that although people say they believe in God, they don't really. The modern world makes it impossible to believe in the God of the fundamentalist Lutheran Church Nietzsche grew up with. But, that doesn't really apply to non fundamentalist religions. They continue to thrive. Fundamentalist Christians are just converting to fundamentalist Atheism. Scary stuff.

There's a crazy amount going on when you zoom out and an insane amount when you zoom in too (atoms, molecules, cells). In regards to God, it feels like there's probably something out there, and that something is probably smarter than we are. Idk if we have a relationship with it/them. Until we have definitive evidence instead of subjective I think that the best course of action is to live well and follow basic human principles (don't lie, murder, steal, etc.) Hopefully that helps ๐

I do not particularly believe in a creator diety. I would also not assess my views on science as belief. I am not certain that science is trying to destroy belief in a god. I do not think that it CAN. Science can really only speak to what a God is NOT (or does not appear to be, at least). Additionally and especially in the history of pre-modern science, religions have been a source of funding for the sciences. There is no need to have enmity between science and religion. Science can only speak to what is testable or within the bounds of its current understanding. Many concepts of Gods do not need to fall within that context. For example, if you tell me the coworker sitting at a desk next to me is an emanation of God, but that they look, act, and in all ways appear to be human... then, ok, I have no way to test that my coworker is not an aspect of God. If you say that I can prove this because their soul is a particular shade of blue... I cannot test that. If you say that this can be proven because they will twitch whenever I silently pray... I can test that. Where hard-line religions often get into trouble in modern times is when they state things that can be tested (the world is 6000 years old, for example) or they misunderstand/reject what science is saying to fit their own ideology ("x" is only a theory; the big bang cannot be correct because the universe must be eternal, etc). This issue is also not unique to those kind of hard-line religions, but is common to any ideology that makes fundamental assertions about what reality MUST BE, and asserts any arguments against what MUST BE are an attack on the ideology.

Seeing young people deny evolution over creationism is genuinely depressing.
