What scientific knowledge has been updated during your lifetime?
For example when I was a kid we didn't know why the dinosaurs died out. Now we know it was due to a 6-mile-wide asteroid that struck the Earth in Mexico. What has been discovered in your lifetime?

I think one of the things that I have been most impressed with (because it is just *so* cool) is how much more we understand about black holes. We went from having some basic theoretical models and some theories relating to gamma ray bursts, to producing images of black holes (including measuring their magnetic field, as displayed in the image below). I remember watching Interstellar and being awed by the beauty of the black hole model they used .... so different than the way we conceptualized black holes back in my college days. Science is not only cool. It is beautiful.

euthanization of people's pet fish is always so weird to me like
numerous studies (credible) suggest fish do not have the neuro-physiological capacity for conscious awareness of pain. quoting a study conducted and published in 2013, "behavioral reactions by fish to seemingly painful human criteria and were thus misinterpreted". plus a genus like Betta, most of... read more
