Is it just me or do mean people seem to age faster?

Question

I've noticed that when someone looks 10+ years older than their age, they rarely smile and often seem to be negative and hateful in general. On the other hand, people who look young for their age tend to smile a lot.

What do you think?

I'm always mean 😆 but I still look younger than my age. Most of us Asians look younger than our age. I guess genetics play a great role in this matter but scientifically, stress and anger can definitely make someone stress-looking and age fast.

Stress can age someone, but so can extreme emotions that cause people to smile or frown (wrinkles).

I don't know about that. I've met some very nice people that looked way older then they were. It's more about how you live and genetics in general then disposition.

I always looked gloomy and depressed. Now I'm back at being able to hide it since things gotten ever so slightly better in life. People find out I'm 25 and gets blown away sometimes thinking I'm 21 😂 I know the years are not too far apart but I hope I still keep that up when I get to 30. I'd still feel like me being down would make me look older or bring out more stressed out look.

Yep that’s Stress it makes you age faster and is one of the reasons for many blood pressure and heart diseases. But don’t take My word for it just Google it up.

Think there is a scientific explanation, and it's because of the stresses of the mind and body. If someone is constantly angry they'll be under more stress, thusly they physically age faster

Mean people probably do age faster because they might have an inferiority complex they struggle and stress about. Which could be why they want to put on a rude front so they wouldn’t come off weak. That or mean people just stress with a lot of negativity and hatred towards whatever bothers them.

Nahh, if you ask any of my exes, they'll tell you I'm a... I think the only thing I've been called that wouldn't get removed is bloody jerk. But I'm also told that I look like I am almost half the age I really am.

I think you might be into something with that observation. I’m a bit of an asshole myself, and I pretty regularly get confused for being several years older than I really am. Meanwhile, my very kindhearted friends all look like they’re still preteens. Hadn’t noticed until reading your post though. Interesting.

Ye, I mean cortisol makes you age faster, so it would be a reasonable assumption, maybe not a general rule tho. Also these kind of people might have poor dietary habits substance abuse might be an issue. Things like a bit too much coffee or little alcohol can keep you in a constant state of dehydration. Not really good for your skin. I guess it all comes around.

Looking older may also correlate to looking "worse" and therfore those people may have lower self-esteem and act negatively becuasd of it
