When community is a bad word

The place I’m currently at is super small and is 40 minutes from the nearest town. The senior people (all married with kids) constantly talk about how tight and great the community is. I finalized my divorce here and have been alone the entire two years I’ve been here. No kids. Had to say goodbye to one of my two dogs. Just him and me now. The “single” population is either too young or too toxic to be around. The only thing to do here that doesn’t require travel is bowling. Hard to feel a part of a community when you can’t get any “friends” to hang out. Hard to feel a part when you get ignored at events and the lack of family and kids is held over you. Hard to feel a part when all your meals are at home by yourself because there are only two options to dine in. Good news, I’m leaving somewhat soon and moving on to better things and a better job. Putting this speed bump behind me as fast as I can.
