Why do so many people link tattoos to evil, bad, trouble ect? It's literally just ink on someone else's body that's not hurting others. Any personal experiences with misconceptions with your tattoos?

People love finding a reason to feel better than other people. Tattoos were first popularized by soldiers who got them during wartime, and then became associated with counter culture, so people feel pure for not having them. On top of that, tattoos are prohibited by many religions. As a result there's a large group of people looking down on others for having a tattoo. It's stupid. Tattoos are cool. Who cares what other people do to their own bodies of they're not hurting you?

In my culture its just considered taboo because its associated with gangs and criminals. But over the years the younger generation let go of that. The older generation still sees it as "dirty"

For older generations there was a perception that only untrustworthy people with rough backgrounds got tattoos. And maybe 60 to 80 years ago there was some truth to that. When I was in Japan I was told tattoos were something only Yakuza got and some bath houses wouldn't let people with tattoos in. Personally, I don't care. But I think each generation will have something they don't like and they stereotype and have strong prejudice against. So I try not to be to hard on older generations know that I'll likely do the same thing some day just with a different issue.

Because in recent times and internationally it is associated with thugs, gangs, and mafias. It isn't what you'd look at and think "professional look" and that's why many places reject people with visible tattoos to work for them. I think you might be getting extra backlash because you're a woman. I personally can see the occasional artistry or even hilarity in tattoos, but I don't want anything permanent on my body or face or ink injections. (edited)

i used to date a teacher, everytime i pick her up at school i could hear her co teachers and some parents saying stuff about my tattoos and saying why did my ex even dated a guy like me lol, some says "he must be from prison", and even pointing at me to scare their kids 😂

Tribal? Gang markings maybe 500 years ago? It's like beards, long hair, whatever. Anything can be a signal, and then later a stigma because of whatever happened with a society of people with those "signals" shown. Tats are intense because they're "serious". The cool thing is since tats are artwork, what it signals matters, varies. People who are fraid of tattos never met someone cool with a cool tattoo. But you know the quality and content of the artwork changes attitudes. I had an ex with pretty beautiful tattoos, probably it scared my mom, but I bet also she knew they were good tattoos. And she was a cool/kind girl, so... that probably helped. But, right.. Mom was in a tribe, Christians of a certain type. Their signal was not wearing tattoos, hah. It's definitely older and older news. I feel like it's at least 2 generations dead. Prison and war tho.. maybe current. Darkness thru association with prison and war. Mericans might give old veterans a pass for military tattoos. I got no tats. Yall freaks and heathens.😐

My great-grandma had tribal marks on her face, she was one of a few that still had them. Everyone after her went for the "The Bible says they are evil, only bandits get tattooed" (guess they were brainwashed - no other explanation I'll accept) So I'm a weird one, grew up seeing my great-gran with face tattoos and I've always wanted to get ink, the tribal one looks cool it's been over 23 years but I vividly remember what the marks looked like. If only I wasn't so terrified of needles near my skin.

I've found that it's very much a 50% thing. People either look at me like I'm a criminal or they open up super easily and get informal in about two seconds, even in professional settings. It's so weird. Funny when they stare so hard that they bump into something though!

Late to the party, but at least here, Where religion is not a big thing, sailors and criminals were the only people getting tattoos, none of which could be trusted… But here I meet very little prejudice and issues regarding tattoos, there will always be some people.
