Pitchblende Uraninite from Eldorado mine Great Bear Lake Port Radium Labine Point NWT Canada radioactive ☢️. Pitchblende is a Uranium oxide mineral containing 88% Uranium metal. The Eldorado mine was opened in the 1930s for Radium salts to sell to the Dutch for Cancer treatment. In the 1940s there was a huge demand for Uranium to be used in the Manhattan project Canada exported UO2 to the United States to build the world's first Atomic weapons that were dropped on Japan in 1945. After the war it became a highly productive Silver mine. The mine contained: Silver, Uranium, Gold, Copper, Bismuth and Cobalt.
