It was very funny because it was the realization of "wow! You can really eat without meat and it doesn't make any difference at all!"

Normally.. nothing special. It's over time that sometimes the cheese addiction comes back and you have to fight against it. But I've learned to get through it.

I actually didn't have that one "first vegan week." 😅 It took me almost a year to really go completely vegan and to work through ingredient lists, additives, and all the things that you first think: Why on earth shouldn't that be vegan? What surprised me the most was what I suddenly started paying attention to. And my taste actually changed quite quickly. After a few weeks, I suddenly found regular milk chocolate not so tasty anymore, and even Kinder bars, which I used to like, didn't taste good to me at all after a while. Over time, what you like just changes. And eventually, you realize: I actually don't miss anything animal-based anymore. 🌱

For me at least, it went good enough for almost 8 years of vegan. Had none of the "extreme sluggishness" or "always feeling hungry" like some say they do. The only challenge was food wise, was finding food without animal products or honey that was made from collecting pollen and mixed with a syrup like maple. Thats when I found agave syrup some of the "bee free" honey. Finding salt made from plants was a bit challenging at first, cause most salt is sea salt which sometimes has fish bones and scales and everything else in it, so finding vegetable or fruit made salt was a bit trial and error. Also finding good sources of sports drink or electrolytes was a bit annoying, but tea and coffee and juices have been a good way to mix up the fluid intake. (edited)

It's been a long time and it was challenging. Back then, there weren't so many alternatives. Today, I mostly like it simple anyway, without big substitute products. (edited)

The truth is that in this last stage, it's been great. I had other vegan attempts years ago, but I don't think I was ready because I struggled not to eat eggs or cheese; I missed them a lot. But this last time I was so aware that making the decision and executing it felt like a liberating act, and I didn't miss them again.

At first, no matter how much I ate, I had a constant feeling of hunger. But I quickly realized that it was purely psychological. After about a week, it normalized.

I expected to miss fast food. I didn't/don't.

I forgot that margarine and vegetables exist, so I bought myself a terrible spreadable cheese because I didn't know what else I could buy in that store :/. And I forgot that jams exist, and that milk chocolate is made from, among other things, milk...

I felt free and at peace with my loves, the animals. I felt my body transformed into a garden of peace and love. It's been a long time since I've been vegan; I wish I had the chance to have been one forever.

In fact, since I had gradually removed animal products from my diet when I became vegan for good, I didn't see a huge difference.
