Killer whales
Orcas are pretty terrifying. I find it amazing we don't seem to have any real cases of orcas attacking humans.(though there have been some recent cases of them going after boats off the coast of Spain). Why do you think that is? Are they intelligent enough to appreciate us as another intelligent species or intelligent enough to register that we could destroy them all if we wanted to.🤔 So then I started wondering how orcas interact with dolphins would they kill or collaborate? There are actually orcas that stick to a fish diet rather than eat other mammals. Orca culture varies a bit by pod. Apparently the name 'killer whale' refers to the fact that they kill and eat just about everything, including other whales(even blue whales).- Not a nod to any sea world incidents. There's evidence of orcas killing dolphins as well as tolerance towards dolphins. It seems humans are still the only exception to the menu https://www.cbc.ca/news/science/pacific-white-sided-dolphins-southern-resident-killer-whales-1.5021585 (edited)

Orcas are terrifying yet such beautiful creatures. I absolutely adore them. They often tend to acquire dietary habits and mannerisms from their mother. It might have been the case, in the past, where they were keen on hunting down even humans among other species. And they're good at it hence the name. Over the time they would have realized attacking humans isn't a reliable source of diet for them as we aren't regularly in waters. Also I don't know if they can get enough energy after eating a human being. Also they are extremely intelligent and social as they have been recorded to approach humans for help on several occasions. That's why they might see humans as a smol mammalian play thing who knows stuff. So why scare us off. Practically looking at it, there's no point attacking humans for food and if they actually think in a similar way.. Well kudos to them. 🙌🏻

They are pretty fascinating species. Matriarchal in nature and when the females of the species become too old to breed they become the teachers and the pods learn over time and adapt to new things through a long series of passed down information

I have pondered on that also, like if an animal jumps on to a passing boat the orcas seem to get very troubled with whether or not they should continue in their hunt. Like they see us as some how dominant not like, we can jump in the water and beat them up lol but that if they were to harm us, retribution and their death would come pretty quickly afterwards.

Just read an article where pods of orcas are attacking small sailboats, sinking one. In that article, experts specifically advise to stay out of water where pods are seen. Orcas are amazing creatures. https://www.oldsaltblog.com/2023/02/the-mystery-of-why-orcas-are-attacking-sailboats-pod-fads-black-hull-paint-or-something-else-entirely/ (edited)
