1Pencillate (verb): To express oneself in provisional strokes, to speak as though one’s words may later be rubbed vigorously into oblivion. In other words, speaking with a metaphorical pencil. Pronunciation: [pin-si-late] Etymology: I made it up 5 minutes ago. Here are some red flags that someone might be pencillating: Overuse of “technically”. Reframing simple yes/no questions into philosophical debates. Treating verbs like legally binding contracts. Speaking as though there is an eraser hovering over every noun. Using the phrase “to be fair” when fairness is not involved. Here is how pencillating would be used in an internal company memo: Subject: Possible Strategic Realignment Dear Team, It has come to our tentative attention that the organization may be exploring a potential shift in certain operational paradigms, pending confirmation, alignment, and the continued existence of time as a concept. While no formal decisions have been finalized, announced, implied, or spiritually manifested, leadership is cautiously optimistic about possibly considering a review of our current structure. To be clear, and by clear, we mean lightly sketched, there are no immediate changes planned at this time. That said, immediate is a fluid word, and planned is under evaluation. We want to emphasize that any adjustments, if they were to occur, which they may not, would be implemented thoughtfully, gradually, and in a way that aligns with our commitment to transparency, as defined internally.
